PHOTOS: 2,500 runners from 40 nations take part in Split half marathon

SPLIT, 24 February 2019 – Over 2,500 runners from all over the world, including the president of Slovenia, have taken part in the annual half marathon in Split on Sunday.
Despite the sunshine, conditions were made difficult due to the fact that winds were still strong after the hurricane bura blew through the city yesterday.
Runners from 40 countries took part in the 19th edition of the 21.1 km race which started and finished on Split’s waterfront, including Slovenia’s president Borut Pahur, and the mayor of Split, Andro Krstulović Opara, who completed the 5 km event.
Split local Nikolina Šustić, who is the world 100 km female champion, also ran in the event.
Kenya runners took out the first three places with Samuel Naibei Kiplimo winning the race.
The race started at 9 am and ended around 12 pm when the last runner crossed the finish line. Organisers said that next year a full 42 km will be run.
