Wine cellars in Pelješac to open doors as largest wine event in Dalmatia set to start

Everything is ready for the most anticipated wine event in Dalmatia. On December 3, Pelješac will once again become the centre of the wine scene and organisers are expecting more than two thousand fans of top-quality plavac from Croatia and the region.

The largest wine event in Dalmatia, “Pelješac Cellars Open Days”, after a two-year break, returns in style.

Traditionally, on the first Saturday in December, from Ston to Mokalo, more than forty winemakers open their cellars and konobas and promote the strongest brand of this peninsula, plavac mali.

In addition to well-known wineries, the itinerary includes the Museum of Viticulture and Winemaking within PZ Putniković and the newly opened Museum of Pelješac Traditions within Boutique Winery Mikulić in Mokalo, as well as numerous family farms in the coastal and rural part of the peninsula and the unmissable beautiful Kaštio in Ston where on 3 December at 11 a.m. the event opens with delicacies and Pelješac wines.

The centre of the event is, of course, in the most famous Pelješac wine town, Potomje, known for its excellent Dingač and great entertainment, and in addition to powerful plavac and other Pelješac wines at promotional prices, a wine stew will be offered in the Cooperative House in Janjina, while local specialties will be prepared in Kuna.

“Preparations for our jubilee fifteenth wine event are in full swing. The announcement of organised arrivals from Zagreb, Zadar, Split and our county is a confirmation that wine lovers have recognised Pelješac as an attractive wine destination, but also that the Pelješac Cellars Open Days have become an unmissable event,”points out Slobodan Rosić from the Pelješki vinski puti association, which is the organiser of he manifestations.

Rich programme

The organisers announce a rich programme and the day before the event. Thus, in the afternoon hours of December 2nd, wine lovers and winemakers will gather in Putnikovići and Kuna.

“Twelve young oenologists from Pelješac at PZ Putniković will evaluate autochthonous varieties and hand out diplomas for the best rated young wine Rukatac, Pošip and other white varieties, Rosa, Plavac Mali, Plavac Mali from special locations and other red varieties. After tasting the evaluated wines with goulash, visitors will be able to enjoy a concert by the Kaše band. On the same day in Kuna, Kuna winemakers will gather, and in addition to the tasting of their wines, they will also offer lamb on a spit from OPG Antunović and green menestra at promotional prices accompanied by music,” says Rosić.

Pelješac Cellars Open Days

Open days of Pelješac cellars are organised in cooperation with Dubrovnik-Neretva County, HGK Dubrovnik County Chamber, Dubrovnik-Neretva County Chamber of Crafts, municipalities and tourist associations from Pelješac and with the support of the famous Romerquelle brand.
