Majority of Croatians staying local for summer holidays
ZAGREB, 10 July 2025 (Hina) – More than 70 percent of Croatians plan to spend their summer holidays within Croatia this year, with average planned spending of around €1,330, according to a recent survey conducted by the employment website MojPosao.
The survey, which included over 600 participants, revealed that 79 percent of respondents intend to take a summer holiday, with most choosing to stay within the country.
Among those surveyed, 71 percent said they would be vacationing in Croatian destinations, while 20 percent plan to travel abroad. A smaller portion, nine percent, will split their holidays between Croatia and international destinations.
Croatians typically have an average of 25 days of annual leave, and the most common holiday duration is between two and three weeks.
This timeframe, chosen by 33 percent of respondents, also aligns with the optimal rest period recommended by psychologists for recharging and disconnecting from work.
Only 12 percent of those surveyed said they plan to take more than three weeks off over the summer.
Despite headlines suggesting that Croatia has become an expensive destination for locals, the findings indicate that domestic holidays remain relatively accessible.
Those travelling abroad expect to spend more, with an average budget of €1,898, compared to €1,330 for holidays within Croatia. However, international trips tend to be shorter, often lasting up to seven days, while domestic holidays are usually longer.
For those who are not planning a summer holiday, the main reasons include not having leave available during the summer, already living on the coast and not feeling the need to travel, or most commonly, financial constraints.
The survey also highlighted the demographics of respondents, with 90 percent being women. The majority were aged between 41 and 50 (53 percent), followed by those between 31 and 40 (41 percent).
