Northern Croatia holiday property rentals skyrocket

ZAGREB, 12 Jan (Hina) – Varaždin, Međimurje, Koprivnica-Križevci, Virovitica-Podravina and Bjelovar-Bilogora counties have registered a considerable rise in the capacities in holiday rental properties over the last five years as well as in the occupancy rate of those facilities.

For instance, Međimirje County has reported a 51% rise in bread and breakfast facilities, guest houses and holiday cottages. Owners have recognised it as an additional source of income.

In this northern county, holiday makers seem to prefer rural area.

In Koprivnica-Križevci County, there were 29 holiday rental properties with 82 beds in 2018 to rise to 86 such properties which offered 206 beds in 2023.

In this county, accommodation capacities in urban areas are more in demand than those in the rural areas.

Domestic property rentals skyrockets threefold in Varaždin County

In Varaždin County, the number of  B&B facilities, holiday cottages and other holiday lets increased from 51 to 169 over the last five years.

The average duration of stay of guests in this northwestern county increased from 3.5 days to 4.5 days, and the main inbound markets for this county are Germany, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Italy, the local tourist authorities have told Hina.

In 20203 those facilities had 41,000 overnight stays.

Holiday lets in Virovitica-Podravina and  Bjelovar-Bilogora Counties also on rise

Local tourist authorities in Virovitica-Podravina County have said that the number of holiday lets has risen 34% since 2020, while the number of beds has risen by 20.6%.

A similar trend has been registered in Bjelovar-Bilogora County where in early 2019 there were 72 holiday rental properties to rise to 182 at the end of 2023.
