ZAGREB, July 11 (Hina) – The public institution “Velebit Nature Park” last Saturday opened Via Ferrata Bat, a protected climbing route on the 1,402-metre Crnopac massif on the southernmost part of the Velebit mountain range, Zadar County authorities reported on Saturday.

Via Ferrata Bat was built as part of the project “Cerovac Caves Excellence Centre”, dedicated to the largest cave complex in Croatia, located four kilometres southwest of the town of Gračac, on the northeastern slope of the Crnopac massif.

The new climbing route provides a panoramic view of the regions of Lika and Dalmacija.

Zadar County head Božidar Longin, who was among the first to climb the route with Velebit Nature Park director Mario Šaban, invited guests to visit the region of Lika and its Cerovac Caves as well as climb the Veliki Bat summit using the new climbing route.

Since Via Ferrata Bat is a mountainous, adventure route equipped with steel cables, steps and ladders, climbers need the necessary climbing gear.
