Marin Čilić Storms into Last 8 at US Open

CroatiaCroatia’s number one tennis player Marin Čilić has stormed into the US Open quarter-final after beating France`s Gilles Simon in five sets on Tuesday in New York…

14th seed Čilić (25) hit 23 aces as he powered past Simon 5-7, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in four hours and 13 minutes to set up a quarter-final clash with the Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych.

“This victory means a lot to me. I knew Giles would not give up and I had to stay strong. I saved a break-point in the first game of the fifth set and played an excellent last set to win. The conditions made it tough, but when the sun went down in the fifth set we both played our best tennis,” Marin said after the win. (US Open)
