Marin Čilić Nominated for 2015 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award

Čilić, who beat world No.3 Roger Federer in straight sets in the semi-final before beating and Kei Nishikori in the final in New York, was shortlisted on Wednesday and is one of six nominated for the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award.

Colombian and Real Madrid footballer James Rodriguez, 2014 World Cup winning goal-scored Germany’s Mario Götze, Australian three Grand Prix winning rookie Daniel Ricciardo, youngest every Olympic Slalom champion Mikaela Shiffrin and Davis Cup winning Switzerland Tennis Team were also shortlisted today.

“I am honoured to be nominated for the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award,” Čilić said on Wednesday.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, widely considered the “Oscars of sports”, is an annual award ceremony honoring remarkable individuals from the world of sports along with the greatest sporting achievements throughout the year. This year’s ceremony will be held in Shanghai from April 13 – 15. Good luck, Marin.
