Learning Croatian: Phrase of the Week – Cursed!

Croatia211-1

You know some basic Croatian, enough to get you by, but there is nothing that will impress more than knowing a local phrase or slang that you can slip into a conversation…

Our ‘Word / Phrase of the Week will teach you a variety of words and phrases commonly used in Croatia, but not commonly found in language learning material.

Today’s phrase:

da padne na leđa, razbio bi nos (da pad:ne na led:jar, raz:bio be nors)

The phrase da padne na leđa, razbio bi nos is basically used to emphasis when somebody is extremely unlucky, that no matter what they do they can not seem to have any luck. Cursed even. Where whatever they do it usually turns to custard. The literal translation is – If he fell onto his back, he’d break his nose.
