Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković visited Dubrovnik on Friday where, in the presence of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, he signed contracts for two significant road projects in Dubrovnik-Neretva County with a total value exceeding €30 million.

The agreements were signed by Minister Butković, Director of the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting of EU Programmes and Projects Dragan Jelić, and project beneficiaries, Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković and Director of the County Roads Authority Ivo Kaštelan.

The larger of the two projects concerns the reconstruction of the ŽC6224 county road from the new Polačište port to the village of Račišće on Korčula.

The nearly 10-kilometre stretch, worth €25.49 million, is regarded as a key island route.

It links Korčula’s settlements with the town itself and with the new Polačište port, which is set to become the island’s primary connection with the mainland, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure said.

The second project involves the construction of a new link road connecting Nova Mokošica with the former Ž6254 county road in Dubrovnik.

Valued at €4.69 million, the 895-metre road will feature two traffic lanes, pavements, three bus bays and full communal infrastructure. The new connection is expected to ease congestion at existing junctions and enhance overall road safety.

Speaking at the signing, Minister Butković emphasised the importance of the investments:

“These projects, worth more than €30 million and co-financed by EU funds, will significantly improve transport links and increase road safety.”

He also highlighted a number of ongoing strategic projects across the county, including the Orebić bypass, the new Perna ferry terminal, the Žrnovo–DC118 road on Korčula, and upgrades to port infrastructure.

“We are continuing a road-and-port renaissance in the county,” he said. “These strong investments will bring even better connectivity and a higher quality of life for our citizens in the long term.”

Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković thanked the Government for its continued support, noting that preparations are already under way for another major project:

“We are preparing the Kineski Zid road, which begins next year. All of these projects ultimately make life easier for our residents and raise the quality of life in Dubrovnik.”

County Prefect Blaž Pezo also welcomed the developments, particularly the new link road for Nova Mokošica:

“This is an exceptionally important project. It will provide safer and easier access to the local kindergarten and school – something our residents have been waiting for.”
