Zagreb, 13 May 2025 – The WTA Makarska Open hosted by Valamar will take place from 2 to 8 June 2025, marking its fourth edition in the coastal city of Makarska.

The tournament is held at the Makarska Tennis Centre, located near the sea and known for combining professional sport with an attractive entertainment and tourism offering.

At a press event in Zagreb, tournament director Feliks Lukas and Croatian players Ana Konjuh, Lucija Ćirić Bagarić, and Petra Marčinko confirmed their participation and previewed this year’s event.

Also expected to play are Tena Lukas and Petra Martić, with Lea Bošković and Tara Würth aiming to qualify for the main draw.

Defending champion Katie Volynets (USA) will return to Makarska, alongside other former champions including Tamara Zidanšek (Slovenia), Aleksandra Krunić (Serbia), and Jule Niemeier (Germany).

The line-up also includes Veronika Erjavec (Slovenia), Lola Radivojević and Nina Stojanović (Serbia), Moyuka Uchijima (Japan), Renata Zarazúa (Mexico), Jaqueline Cristian (Romania), Maya Joint and Daria Saville (Australia), Diane Parry (France), and Xinyu Wang (China).

Over the past decade, the tournament has hosted players such as Maria Sakkari and Jasmine Paolini.

Makarska’s transformation into a destination for sport and tourism is supported by events like this tournament.

The city has positioned itself as a year-round sports destination, particularly attractive during the off-season due to its Mediterranean climate, facilities, and natural surroundings.

The Croatian Tourist Board recognises the tournament as a platform for international promotion, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sport has included it among the 47 large-scale sporting projects co-funded in 2025, with a total allocation of nearly €18 million.

Imperial Riviera, which manages the tennis centre, has invested more than €40 million into the destination over the past seven years. Valamar returns for the fourth year as the tournament’s general partner, continuing its strategic collaboration with the City of Makarska to support sports and tourism development.

The semi-finals and final of the tournament will be broadcast live on Croatian Television.
