Handball EURO 2020: Croatia beats Austria

VIENNA, 16 January 2020 – Croatia has recorded an important victory against Austria on Thursday in the Main Round of the 2020 European Men’s Handball Championship. 

Croatia were undefeated in group play after wins against Montenegro Belarus and Serbia and today made a winning start to the Main Round with a 27-23 win over Austria in Vienna. 

Croatia are in Group I in the Main Round with Austria, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic and Belarus. Croatia, Spain and Austria took the maximum 2 points from the group stages into the Main Round and today’s victory means they go top of the group with Spain. 

Croatia will face Germany, Czech Republic and Spain in their remaining Main Round matches with the top two teams in the group qualifying for the semi-finals. 

The 24-team European Men’s Handball Championship is being co-hosted for the first time in three countries, Austria, Norway and Sweden. The semi-finals will be played on 24 January in Stockholm, with the final taking place on 26 January also in Stockholm.
