SPLIT, 18 July 2019 – Hajduk Split has signed the hugely talented 18-year-old Croatian defender David Colina from AS Monaco.

Colina, who is a candidate for the coveted Golden Boy award for the best-rated under-21 talent on the planet, has signed a 4-year deal for Hajduk until 30 June 2023, the club’s official website said on Thursday.

Colina was purchased by Monaco from Dinamo Zagreb for €1.5m last season. He started his career at Hrvatski Dragovoljac before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2009 where he was developed by their academy. In 2018, he signed for AS Monaco Football Club. He has represented Croatia at U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 level.

“David’s arrival, and that of Ivan Dolcek before him, resolves our left back problem. Colina is one of the most talented players in Croatia in that position and is a player that the coach knows very well. We have long-term plans with him and he will need a little time to settle in and there is no rush, “said Hajduk’s sport’s director Saša Bjelanović.

“I am happy and satisfied because Hajduk has recognised my potential, and I hope that I will fully fulfil and realise their expectations. I came here because I saw the prospect of progress and development in working with young players and that was very important to me. I hope that thanks to my work and engagement in training I will have the opportunity to play and show people in the Club and the fans why I was signed. Of course, the desire is to run out on the pitch as soon as possible and to play in front of the full Poljud stadium,” Colina said.
