French Open: Winning start for Marin Čilić & Petra Martić

PARIS, 26 May 2019 – A winning start for Croatian players involved in the opening day of the 2019 French Open at Roland-Garros on Sunday. 

Marin Čilić and Petra Martić both advanced to the second round with comfortable wins today. 

Martić was first up on court this morning against Tunisian Ons Jabeur. Martič won 65% of her first serve in her 6-1, 6-2 victory over the world number 56. She will face the winner of the Kristina Mladenovic – Fiona Ferro match in the second round.

Čilić got through to the second round after brushing aside Thomas Fabbiano from Italy in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-1. The 11th seed will play the winner of the Janko Tipsarević – Grigor Dimitrov match in the second round. 

In the men’s draw, Borna Ćorić will play Aljaž Bedene from Slovenia, whilst Ivo Karlović faces Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the first round. In the women’s draw, Donna Vekić will face Ludmilla Samsonova.
