Forbes names Croatian island among 4 to visit this year in Europe

The Croatian island of Hvar has made the list as the 10th best island in the world.

Forbes magazine has named one Croatian island on its list of ‘4 European Island Destinations To Visit This Year’.

In its introduction, Forbes said that when it comes to choosing an island destination in Europe, the options seem almost endless, with over 2,000 populated islands dotting the continent’s coastlines.

While popular destinations like Santorini, Sardinia, Ibiza, and Mykonos they say often steal the spotlight, they shed light on other gems awaiting exploration in 2024.

On the list of four islands in Europe they recommend readers to visit this year is the island of Hvar in Croatia.

“Chic Hvar in the Adriatic Sea came in at 9th place in the CNTraveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2023 for the Best European Islands and it’s easy to see why. Hvar is best suited for travelers looking to find something for everyone—great restaurants and nightlife that cater to the glitzy superyacht crowd, it has spas and wellness centres for anyone looking to recharge, and quieter types can head inland on this tiny island (population around 11,000) to explore the rustic vineyards and lavender fields,” Forbes writes.

The popular magazine also said the best time to visit Hvar is between May and June or September and October when the weather is warm and sunny, but the island is less crowded than during the peak summer months of July and August.

Joining Hvar on Forbes’ list were The Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles off the rugged coast of mainland Scotland, comprising over 200 islands stretched across 130 miles. Stromboli, with its fiery volcanic activity, and Heimaey, a picturesque isle off the coast of Iceland, offer unique and memorable experiences for adventurous travellers.
