First Sikh Wedding on the Dalmatian Coast

Sikh wedding on the Dalmatian coast

A Punjabi Prince rides a white horse to meet his bride led by a man wearing the traditional Croatian costume from Sinj, not an ordinary sight on Croatia’s Dalmatian coastal town of Trogir.

The usual trendy terrace bar at Brown Beach House was transformed into a Punjabi Sikh paradise for an afternoon where guests observed the nuptials of Nina and Ravi with uninterrupted views of Croatia’s coastline.

This was the first ever Sikh wedding in Dalmatia and the first for destination wedding planners, Dreamtime Events Croatia who were determined to meet all the traditional standards and expectations of the bride and groom.

The pair, originally from the UK decided to say ‘I do’ in front of family and close friends in a two-day celebration at Croatia’s self-proclaimed, “Glamour by the Sea,” Brown Beach House. The first day was a traditional Sikh ceremony and the second day was a traditional white wedding by the Adriatic sea.

The Sikh ceremony, also referred to as ‘Anand Karaj’ was lead by Dr. Freedom Singh and Leela, who were flown in from Canada, left many quite emotional in a very symbolic and traditional modern Sikh ceremony lasting just over an hour. An Anand Karaj is a fairly active ceremony that incorporates the entire family of the bride and groom as the two families unite as one.
