First Croatian museum of viticulture & winemaking opening on Peljesac peninsula

Putnikovici, 16. srpnja 2019 – The first Croatian museum of viticulture and winemaking will open in Putnikovici on the Peljesac peninsula on the occasion of the traditional St. Anne’s feast day on 26 July.

“We are exceptionally proud to have completed this demanding project which is on two floors, on a total area of 800 square meters, where exhibits from our long viticulture and winemaking history will be presented. The Feast of St. Anne is a great opportunity for this unique museum to be visited by locals and guests and to enjoy our wines, besides the praised plavac, included wines from the indigenous white grape Maraština which carry the name of our patron,” said PZ Putnikovic director Jozo Rabusic.

As a part of the winery, a winemaking house with valuable exhibits and tasting opportunities was opened three years ago, and now from the end of July visitors will have the opportunity to see a replica of a autochthonous Dalmatian house decorated in the attic of the new museum.

This little picturesque place on the Peljesac peninsula hides one of the rarely preserved baroque churches in its original form, the church of St. Ane, which according to the legend, was built by winegrowers in order to protect their vines from diseases. The wine “Sveta Ana”, by PZ Putnikovic, which goes excellent with seafood, was named after this church.

PZ Putnikovic is one of the largest and most successful wineries on the Peljesac peninsula and annually fills 800 thousand to one million bottles of wine. The Plavac Mal, a variety that gives the best results on Peljesac, dominates their selection.
