Another International film production got underway in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.

Lionsgate’s meta action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal is currently being filmed in Dubrovnik and this weekend the city acted as Jerusalem as filming for the HBO’s film “Oslo” started.

Behind the camera is two-time Oscar winner Janusz Kaminski, who received golden statuettes as director of photography in the films “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan.”

On Dubrovnik’s main street Stradun on Saturday, numerous extras could be spotted in colourful costumes.

“Dubrovnik plays Jerusalem, we have different ethnic groups and people who were there at that time, so in a way, we represent different cultures and people because Jerusalem is a very multicultural city,” said executive co-producer Cambra Overend to HRT.

Forty-five members of the HBO film crew came for just one day of shooting in Dubrovnik. Some of them have known the city for a long time, but working in a pandemic is a novelty for everyone.

“All the people on the set have to be safe so we put them in “bubbles”. We also arrange everything with the unions. Filming during coronavirus requires a lot of time and great precautions. It hasn’t helped the film industry, nor has it helped most others in the world,” producer Mark Taylor added.

“Oslo” tells the story of an attempt by Norwegian humanitarians to implement a peace initiative between Palestinians and Israelis in the early 1990s.

This is the third film production in Dubrovnik in the last month.

“This is a few hundred thousand kuna, nothing significant for the Dubrovnik budget. But what is important for the future of the city is marketing. The value of Dubrovnik’s marketing promotion is currently immeasurable, said Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković.

“It’s fantastic to be here. This is a truly spectacular location for filming. There are an incredible number of possibilities for different films and I have seen some already shot here, said photography director and two-time Oscar winner Janusz Kaminski.

The film is expected to be released in the middle of next year.
