Monteno, who was known as the “Bosnian Roy Orbison” was diagnosed with diabetes in the late 1990s and was hospitalised last month after his body rejected the kidney that he had transplanted in November. He passed away on Wednesday morning from blood poisoning.
Kemal Montena recorded his first song “Lidija” in 1967 and enjoyed a prosperous career in the region for over 40 years. He is best known for “Sarajevo ljubavi moja”, a tribute to his home town, and ‘Nije htjela’, written about a famous musician’s wife, who was in love with another singer.
