U.S. airline will start nonstop flights to New York-JFK on July 3

DUBROVNIK, May 7, 2021 – Delta Air Lines will launch its first nonstop service between Dubrovnik and New York-JFK this summer.  The award-winning U.S. airline will fly nonstop four times a week from July 3, 2021.  The new flight marks the first time Delta has operated service between Croatia and the United States.

“Croatia was the first European country to open its borders to U.S. citizens. It continues to be a popular tourist destination with Americans and we are responding to this high demand for travel by flying nonstop to Dubrovnik for the first time,” said Joe Esposito, S.V.P. – Network Planning. “We’re excited to operate to this new European market and we look forward to welcoming new customers to Delta and in turn, supporting the local economy and global travel recovery.”

Frano Luetić, Managing Director of Dubrovnik Airport commented: “We are happy and proud that Delta, one of the world’s top airlines, is going to introduce this direct route from New York-JFK to Dubrovnik. This route will contribute significantly in encouraging the return of U.S. visitors to Dubrovnik, and Croatia overall, in these difficult times.”

Travelers who are fully vaccinated, have a negative PCR test or proof of recent COVID-19 recovery can enjoy Croatia’s rich history, stunning landscapes and plenty of outdoor excursions in one of Europe’s most popular tourist getaways in recent years.

Welcoming the new service, Nikolina Brnjac Croatian Tourism Minister said: “We are extremely pleased with the decision of Delta Air Lines to establish the NY-Dubrovnik route this summer.   Croatia has been open to U.S. tourists since the beginning of April, with proof of vaccination or recovery or a negative PCR or antigen test and a booking confirmation. Our national Safe Stay in Croatia label ensures the highest epidemiological standards for tourists and we look forward to welcoming back American tourists very soon.”

Since the start of the pandemic, Delta has been heavily focused on the health and safety of its customers and employees. To help protect them when traveling, the airline implemented more than 100 health and safety measures to its already rigorous cleanliness protocols under what the airline calls its Delta CareStandard.

Delta will operate its new service to Dubrovnik using a 226-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft featuring full-flat Delta One beds as well as Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin service. Customers can sit back and relax with hundreds of hours of the latest on-demand television shows, films, music and more on personal seat-back entertainment screens, stay connected with Wi-Fi for purchase and enjoy free mobile messaging.

Delta’s schedule to Croatia will operate as follows in cooperation with its European partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic:

The U.S. has strong links to Croatia and is home to a large Croatian community with some 1.2 million living in cities across the United States including New York City.  The strength of Delta’s hub at JFK will bring these Croatian communities even closer together with the airline offering convenient connection onto 250 same-day flights at JFK to cities across the United States enabling friends and families to reconnect, as well as supporting business and tourism opportunities.

“With the introduction of this new flight by Delta, Croatia will be better connected with the United States than ever before. This is amazing news, which will see an even greater number of Americans visit this season, which is particularly important for southern Croatian destinations, which remain exceptionally popular amongst Americans” stated Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Staničić.

Customers will have more flexibility than ever to plan and rebook their trips with an industry-leading travel credit extension for all tickets expiring in 2021 and all tickets purchased in 2021 through Dec. 31, 2022. Joining the SkyMiles frequent flyer program also enables customers to earn miles on all flights, which can then be redeemed against future travel and benefits on flights operated by Delta or a number of its partners.
