Croatia’s Sandra Perković wins her 44th Diamond League in Paris

PARIS, 28 August 2021 – Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perković has won the Paris Diamond League on Saturday. 

Perković won the meeting with a throw of 65.68 metres in the sixth and final series to claim her 44th Diamond League meeting victory. 

The Croatian’s throw was 37 centimetres ahead of second place Yaime Perez from Cuba. The Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo, American Valarie Allman, took third with a throw of 64.51metres.

With this victory, Perković has levelled with Perez in the overall standings in the Diamond League. Both throwers now have 22 points, while Allman is third with 13 points.

Perković, who created athletics history in 2018 when she become the European champion for the fifth time in a row, won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2012 in London and in 2016 in Rio but could only finish 4th in Tokyo this year.
