Croatia’s Barbara Matić becomes world judo champion after historic final  

Croatia’s Barbara Matić becomes world judo champion

10 October 2022 – Barbara Matić has won an all Croatian final to defend her world judo title today. 

Matić beat fellow Croatian Lara Cvjetko in the final of the the women’s 70 kg division at the 2022 World Judo Championships in Uzbekistan to be crowned world champion again. 

The final was the first In the history of the World Championships in the 70 kg category which saw two female competitors from the same country so Croatia will remain inscribed in the history of world judo.

And after a minute and a half, Matić managed to knock down Cvjetko and pull out the lever on her arm, which meant an automatic victory.

The 27-year-old from Split won gold also at the 2021 World Judo Championships in Hungary.
