Croatians spend big on Black Friday

ZAGREB, 30 Nov (Hina) – This year’s Black Friday on 28 November saw Croatian retailers rake in €106.8 million in sales, up 5.5% on last year.

More than 5.1 million receipts were issued on the day, a rise of 0.5% compared with last year, according to data from the Tax Administration’s fiscalisation system published on Saturday.

On last year’s “Black Friday,” which fell on 29 November, 5,043,350 receipts were issued, with a total value of €101.3 million.

Data from the Tax Administration also show that during this year’s Black Friday week, from 24 to 28 November, a total of 22,916,259 receipts were issued in retail trade, excluding the sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with total sales reaching €435.1 million.

On an annual basis, compared with last year’s Black Friday week, the number of receipts issued this year fell by 0.87%, while the total value of sales rose by 8.17%.

Black Friday is the colloquial name for the Friday following Thanksgiving in the United States, marking the start of the pre-Christmas shopping season.

This tradition, characterised by store discounts, has spread worldwide, with sales and promotional offers often extending over more than just a single day.
