The Tumpić/Prenc studio from Rovinj, Croatia has won first prize at the American competition with a long tradition, the PRINT Awards, for a catalog for client Lab’Bel, an art laboratory that collects contemporary art, and is part of the French multinational Bel Group, one of Europe’s largest cheese producers.

Competing among 45 countries from around the world, at this year’s prestigious American PRINT Awards competition, first place in the category of brochures and catalogs went to Lab’Bel’s catalog designed by Studio Tumpić/Prenc on the occasion of the art laboratory’s tenth anniversary.

The catalog follows the work of artists, curators and museum directors in various projects during its ten years of existence. The visual identity of each article is inspired by various international journals in art, architecture and cinematography, helping the reader to understand the category.

The entire catalog is reminiscent of a large, oversized post-it block, and as such becomes an object of contemporary art in the wake of pop art, which by increasing the subject creates a surreal dimension.

In addition, this turns the tenth anniversary of this laboratory into just another moment of success, just a note of its longevity.

The work has already been recognised at Zagreb Design Week, and now stands out among many American design houses, and is among the few recognised European creatives.

PRINT was originally founded as a magazine back in 1940 with the idea of bringing together creative people in search of dialogue and inspiration.

Organised by this prestigious magazine, the competition was launched in 1980, initially limited to New York City, then the entire United States, and now, 41 years after its founding, it is available to all countries. The new team leads the competition in an innovative way, while respecting the valuable heritage, with a desire to emphasise the importance of brilliant design.

This year, the jury had as many as 21 members, the most so far, and they evaluated the works according to four criteria: originality, innovation, durability and performance.
