Croatian stories now audible across the streets of Chilean capital

SANTIAGO, 17 November 2025 (Hina) – Santiago, the bustling capital of Chile, now offers a unique cultural experience: Croatian literary works and stories can be heard across the city through a newly launched geo-located audio format.

The initiative, known as the “Croatian Audio Story”, was presented at the Club Croata, a long-standing hub for the Croatian community in Chile.

Speaking to Hina, Tatiana Muñoz Mimiza, who oversees cultural activities at the club, explained that the project enables passers-by to listen to Croatian literature in Spanish simply by accessing designated points around the city.

With an estimated 200,000 people of Croatian descent living in Chile, the country is home to one of the world’s largest Croatian diasporas.

Supported by the Croatian government, the project aims to help Chileans of Croatian heritage reconnect with the culture of their ancestors through accessible and engaging storytelling in their own language.

The initiative also aligns with Croatia’s wider efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora.

Facing demographic decline and a shortage of workers, the Croatian government hopes that more descendants of emigrants from South America will consider building their futures in Croatia.

The cultural programme continues next Friday at Club Croata, where a bilingual poetry collection featuring 15 Croatian and 15 Chilean poets will be presented.

Writers, poets, and experts in Hispanic studies are expected to gather for the occasion, further deepening the literary bridge between the two nations.
