Croatia’s President Ivo Josipovic will fly out to London this Wednesday for a 3-day official visit to the UK. During his stay Josipovic will meet the Queen, Prime Minister David Cameron, senior parliament officials and business and education leaders.
Josipovic will also visit the London School of Economics and make a speech at Oxford University on Croatia’s foreign policy. The visit is part of planned visits to a number of EU capitals ahead of Croatia’s EU entry on 1 July. With negative experiences with Bulgaria and Romania’s EU membership, Croatia will use the visit to convince British officials that Croatia has made the necessary reforms, met criteria and is ready to join.
Britain’s future in the EU is not however so certain, with public opinion to break way from the union at its highest, Prime Minister Cameron recently announced that a referendum on Britain’s departure from the EU will be held by no later than 2017.
