14 June 2019 – The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) team have been using humour to educate tourists of dangers in Croatia on social media for the last couple of years.
Their humours posts on social media have helped earn HGSS communication awards in Croatia.
The most popular always seems to be their ‘Not hiking in flip-flops’ message they repeat every summer and their latest message posted today on social media has proven popular again.
“Dear tourists, we know you don’t speak Croatian, so please follow the obvious wordless signs while hiking in the Croatian mountains,” HGSS wrote with a photo of their creative ‘no flip flops sign’ they made.
The message soon went viral, gaining nearly 4k likes and 1k shares in just a few hours.
Some of their other popular social media posts in the past include their ‘drinking alcohol doesn’t really count as ‘hydrating’ on hot summer days’ campaign and warning tourists about the Bura wind by telling them to hold onto their pink flamingo inflatable floats so they can recognise them easier when they taken out to sea.
