Croatian Hacker Arrested In New Zealand As $1b International Ring Busted

The FBI has arrested a Croatian national in New Zealand after an international criminal ring was busted. The Croat was one of 10 hackers arrested after 11 million computers around the world were infected with the malicious “Yahos” software which caused more than $US850 million in total losses as credit card, bank and other information was stolen.

The FBI said it arrested 10 people from New Zealand, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Peru, the United Kingdom, and the United States after getting assistance via Facebook’s security team.

Sources say that accused hackers employed the “Butterfly Botnet”. Botnets are networks of compromised computers that can be used in a variety of cyber attacks on personal computers.
