Croatian Gold Medalist Parts Company With Coach After Disagreement

Croatia’s Olympic gold medal winning discus thrower Sandra Perkovic (22) has parted company with her coach Ivan Ivancic (75).

The successful partnership comes to an end after a disagreement between the pair regarding training methods. “I am sorry that I am ending working with Sandra, who is a “Gloria” of an athlete, but I do not want to work with someone who can not fulfil what I am looking for during the year,” said a disappointed Ivancic to daily Jutarnji list.

Perkovic responded to Ivancic’s comments, saying that what he was after was unrealistic after doctors advised her to rest because of a pulled muscle. “Ivancic wanted me to continue training, but I was against it because I could have done more damage which would need an operation and a year out. I am not a “flash in the pan” athlete, I want to last another 10 years, responded Perkovic.

Perkovic’s boyfriend, former world junior shot put champion Edis Elkasevic, will take over coaching duties.
