Croatian film ‘Murina’ to hit American cinemas and others around the world 

Drive-in cinema coming to Croatian cities this spring

Croatian film Murina, which won the Camera d’Or – Golden Camera – award at the Cannes Film Festival, is set to hit American cinemas. 

The multi award-winning feature debut of director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović has been seen by more than 50,000 cinema goers across France so far, and regular distribution of the film will start in the United States in July, the Croatian Audiovisual Center said. 

In its regular distribution in French cinemas, which began on April 20, Murina has so far been seen by 50,133 people, and has been shown in 94 cinemas across the country.

Murina will be in US cinemas from the beginning of July, and screenings in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and many other countries have been arranged also. 

Murina is a psychological family drama set over the course of four days on one of the Croatian islands, largely inspired by the director’s multi-award-winning fiction short Into the Blue.

The film was shot on the island of Hvar, the Kornati archipelago and the island of Koločep near Dubrovnik. 

The screenplay was co-written by Frank Graziano, the producers of the film are Danijel Pek (Antitalent) and Rodrigo Teixeira (RT Features), and the co-producers are Zdenka Gold (Spiritus movens), Jožko Rutar (SPOK Films) and Miha Černec (Staragara).

To date, the film has been screened at more than 60 festivals and won 23 awards. In addition to the prestigious Cannes award, the film won the award for best film in the Hamptons, as well as the Femme Du Cinema award in Les Arcs in France Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović won the most promising director of the year award.
