Croatia captain Luka Modrić has not yet announced whether Sunday’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain will be his last in a Croatia shirt or if he will continue playing until next summer’s Euros in Germany.

Croatian fans hope the 37-year-old, who will be playing his 166th game for Croatia tomorrow, continues on and in an attempt to persuade him to stay they have prepared something for him during the final.

Popular Croatian Instagram page Volim Hrvatsku, which has over 266,000 followers, has launched the initiative for fans to start singing part of the lyrics of the cult song Poljubi zemlju by Mišo Kovač.

The call has gone for the fans to break in the 10th minute, a nod to Modrić’s number, to sing the lyrics: ’Ostani tu, tu je tvoja mati, ostani tu, još će sunce sjati, ostani tu, snove čuvaj samo za nju, ostani tu’. (Translation: Stay there, your mother is there, stay there, the sun will still shine, stay there, keep your dreams just for her, stay there).

“Important announcement! A message for everyone coming to the stadium tomorrow. We are creating a historic spectacle, all in one voice, and share it further. Let’s take advantage of the large number of people on the profile and launch an action: Everyone start singing these lyrics in the tenth minute:  ’Ostani tu, tu je tvoja mati, ostani tu, još će sunce sjati, ostani tu, snove čuvaj samo za nju, ostani tu.’ FOR LUKA! And repeat it a few times until everything explodes! It seems that there will be 30,000 of us,” reads the Instagram post.

Modrić has said in the past he would play for Croatia as long as he could and was able to at that level. Last week he said that he would reveal his future after the Nations League finals.

Whatever the outcome on Sunday and whatever he decides, Modrić has had an incredible career with Croatia, guiding them to silver and bronze in two consecutive World Cups.
