Croatian community in New York hosts PM and officials

Organised by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the USA, Mr. Pjero Šimunović and the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in NY, Mr. Nikica Kopačević, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, a meeting was held between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Andrej Plenković and Croatian emigrants in the famous Arno Restaurant in Manhattan, whose owners are Croats from Istria Branko Turčinović and Milan Licul.

The role of hostess of the evening was excellently played by Tena Bugarin and Marcela Grancarić, with her beautiful voice she sang the Croatian and American national anthems.

Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the USA Pjer Šimunović greeted and thanked everyone present.

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Gordan Grlić Radman, addressed the audience and emphasised that he is proud to be part of the Government of Prime Minister Plenković, which he says has done so far the most for economic development of the Republic of Croatia and good relations with expatriate Croats and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković greeted all those present and was delighted with the considerable number of young Croats from New York who were present and praised the good mutual cooperation of emigrant Croats with Croatia.

He emphasised the great role and contribution of emigrant Croats in the creation and recognition of the Republic of Croatia, as well as the great role of the Croatian Catholic clergy in preserving the Croatian identity.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations, Mr. Ivan Šimunić, and President Kolinda Grabar Kitarević, who frequently visited the Croatian Community in New York during her mandate, also attended.

The director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in New York, Leila Krešić-Jurić, was also present.

In a positive atmosphere, representatives of the Croatian Community from New York, Croatian priests and nuns, and representatives of many Croatian organisations and associations in New York and America such as; American – Croatian Congress, ACAP, National Federation of Croatian Americans Cultural Foundation, HKD Napredak, board members of the Croatian Radio Club NY – Voice of Free Croatia, leaders of Croatian schools and many distinguished guests and friends of Croatia and mingled with distinguished guests.

Restaurant Arno is located in the heart of Manhattan and not only are the owners Croatian, but also most of the staff are from Croatia. Restaurant Arno is a wonderful place with excellent Mediterranean cuisine, with a wine list that includes many wines from Croatia and staff who will do their best to make you feel comfortable.

It is a place where Croats from New York like to gather, where many parties and receptions, business lunches and dinners are organised.
