A new project by leading local audiobook platform book&zvook is bringing Croatian literature closer to international audiences.
Listen to Croatia is a curated collection of English-language audiobooks by Croatian authors, aimed at travellers, expats, digital nomads, and anyone interested in the country’s deeper layers.
Instead of traditional souvenirs, visitors to many destinations in Croatia can now scan QR codes that offer free access to audiobooks.
These titles provide a literary insight into the country’s culture, history, and identity.
Literary Highlights
The collection features award-winning contemporary authors, covering themes from post-war memory to identity, feminism, and everyday life. Highlights include:
• A Cat at the End of the World by Robert Perišić
A poetic story about the island of Vis, blending human and animal perspectives.
• Mediterranean: A Cultural Landscape by Predrag Matvejević
A reflective work combining memoir and essay about the Mediterranean Sea.
• Celebration by Damir Karakaš
A novel set in Lika, exploring guilt, history, and inheritance.
• Underground Barbie by Maša Kolanović
Short stories from post-socialist Croatia, mixing irony with surrealism.
• A Journey to Russia by Miroslav Krleža
A 1920s travelogue offering insight into one of Croatia’s greatest thinkers.
• Sarajevo Marlboro by Miljenko Jergović
Vignettes from war-time Sarajevo, focused on humanity and survival.
• Unterstadt by Ivana Šojat
A family saga set in Osijek, addressing generational trauma.
• Farewell, Cowboy by Olja Savičević Ivančević
A western-inspired story of grief and memory in Dalmatia.
All audiobooks are professionally narrated in fluent English, making them suitable for quiet moments while travelling—on ferries, terraces, or in holiday apartments.
A New Way to Experience Croatia
Listen to Croatia promotes a slower and more personal connection with the country. Through stories and voices, listeners gain a deeper understanding of the culture, beyond the surface of typical tourist experiences.
The project has already gained international interest, including a presentation at the London Book Fair 2025, where it was showcased alongside global audiobook platforms.

How to Access
The audiobooks are available at listentocroatia.bookzvook.com/summer-club. No subscription is needed. Users can browse, download, and listen from anywhere.
