Croatia welcomes in 2019 with open-air celebrations around the country

1 January 2019 – Croatia welcomed in 2019 with open-air celebrations up and down the country last night. 

Thousands turned out for outdoor New Year celebrations last night and police report that revellers were generally well behaved up and down the country.  

Ambulance services in Zagreb reported a handful of callouts, whilst police said that the ‘craziest night of the year’ was ‘mainly peaceful’. 

Zagreb

On Zagreb’s main square, Mayor Milan Bandić wished party-goers a Happy New Year before a spectacular fireworks display took place on the stroke of midnight. 

DJ Akademija, Four Tenors and Hladno pivo entertained the big crowd which showed up on what was a ‘mild’ winter night. 

Split

Low temperatures and a strong wind did not stop Split’s Riva being packed last night as thousands partied to Magazin and Jasmin Stavros.

Rijeka 

Thousands turned out to welcome in 2019 on Korzo with music from rock band Nord, Fit and Whiteheads and rapper Vojko V. 

Dubrovnik 

Dubrovnik’s famous Stradun was packed with locals and a large number of tourists last night who welcomed in the New Year with an impressive fireworks display and concerts by popular singers Nina Badrić and Tony Cetinski. Mayor Mato Franković wished revellers all the best. 

Osijek

A big crowd turned out to Advent at the park in Osijek to welcome in 2019. Music, drink, dance and fireworks entertained the crowd.
