Croatia continues to be the number one holiday destination for Slovenians, according to a recent survey conducted by the Mediana Institute for Market and Media Research in mid-June.

The online study, focused on Slovenians’ summer travel plans, found that 71 percent of respondents intend to take a summer holiday.

Among them, nearly one fifth have already booked their trip. Just over a quarter have chosen a destination but have not yet finalised their booking, while another quarter are still undecided on where to travel.

When it comes to destinations, Croatia is clearly in the lead. More than half of those surveyed said they would spend their summer in Croatia.

Slovenia ranks second, with one in ten respondents planning to holiday domestically.

Other popular international choices include Greece and Italy, while a little over ten percent indicated they would be travelling “elsewhere”, suggesting growing interest in more diverse or exotic destinations.

Bruno Bonifačić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board’s office in Slovenia, expressed gratitude for the continued loyalty of Slovenian visitors.

“The results confirm the long-standing connection Slovenians have with Croatia, and we are very thankful for that. Our close proximity, excellent transport links, well-known and diverse offer, and mutual trust are all reasons why Croatia remains their first choice,” Bonifačić said.

He added that Slovenians appreciate the authentic experiences, safety and hospitality Croatia offers throughout the year.

“Slovenia is one of our key markets and we will continue adapting our offer and promotional activities to suit their preferences – from family and camping tourism to active holidays and food and wine experiences,” he said.

As for the length of stay, around a third of respondents plan to spend 4 to 7 nights on holiday. One fifth plan to stay up to 10 nights, while approximately a quarter intend to enjoy holidays longer than 10 nights.

In terms of accommodation, private apartments, rooms and holiday homes are the top choice for 38 percent of Slovenians. Hotels and motels follow at 24 percent, while 15 percent prefer campsites.

According to data from the eVisitor system, Slovenian tourists have made over 877,000 arrivals and 4.3 million overnight stays in Croatia so far this year.

This represents a 2 percent increase in arrivals and a 3 percent rise in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.
