12 August 2021 – Croatia has dropped four places in the latest FIFA world rankings which were released on Thursday.

The rankings, were the first released since Euro 2020, saw a number of changes among the top ten nations since May.

Belgium maintained the number one place, with Brazil now in second spot, overtaking France who dropped to number three.

Euro finalists England were fourth, with European champions Italy climbing from seventh in May to fifth on today’s rankings.

Copa America champions Argentina jumped from eighth to sixth place, whilst Spain, who knocked Croatia out at Euro 2020, fell to seventh. Portugal dropped from fifth to eighth.

Gold Cup finalists Mexico and USA completed the top ten.

Croatia are now ranked 18th, down four places from 14th place in May.

The latest rankings took into account 348 matches played around the world since May 27, including the Copa America, Euro 2020, Gold Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Croatia’s next opponents in World Cup qualifying, Russia, were ranked no.21.
