Business For Bernie In Croatia As World Motor Sport Council To Meet In Dubrovnik

He has visited Croatia for pleasure a number of times, but when he comes at the end of September this year it will be strictly business. The most powerful man in motor sport, Bernie Ecclestone, will be in the southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik when the most powerful body of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the World Motor Sport Council meets for the first ever time in Croatia.

Thanks to the work of the Croatian Auto and Karting Association (HAKS), they have managed bring the Council meeting to Croatia. The World Motor Sport Council meets three or four times a year to consider proposals from specialist FIA Commissions. It has a current membership of 26, including FIA President Jean Todt and Formula One commercial rights owner Ecclestone.

“The Jubilee 40th Croatian Rally will be held this year in Porec. The race will be shown live on Eurosport and will be a world advertisement for motor sport in our country. Proof that Croatia is of interest to the FIA is the fact that their ruling body will meet in Dubrovnik,” said Marko Bolanca, president of HAKS, who added that investors would be in Croatia next month talking with members of the government about potentially building a race track in Bistra (Zagreb County).
