ZAGREB, 25 Aug (Hina) – A street in a suburb of the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires was on Sunday named after the Croatian nuns of the Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, DC., in honour of those nuns who have been active in that suburb called Dock Sud since 1934.

In the suburb of Dock Sud, where Croatian nuns reside, a ceremony was held during which a street sign bearing the name “Pje. (Pasaje) Hermanas Vicentinas de Zagreb” was unveiled, as seen in a video posted on the order’s Facebook page on Sunday.

“It is both beautiful and a source of pride to see that plaque bearing the name of Croatia’s capital, from which five sisters set off on their journey to Argentina in 1934 at the invitation of Friar Leonard Rusković,” reported the Zagreb branch of the order, officially named the Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, DC.

The Daughters of Charity is a society of apostolic life founded in Paris in 1633 by Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac. They are known for their charitable and medical work in hospitals.

“The naming of the street is undoubtedly a significant recognition of the sisters’ work, which has been evident throughout the years since their arrival in Argentina, and remains so to this day – particularly through their outreach and assistance to the poorest, from children to the elderly,” the order stated in its press release.
