MELBOURNE, 8 February 2021 – Former US Open champion Marin Čilić  (32) has been bundled out of the 2021 Australian Open in Melbourne on Monday.

Čilić was beaten in straight sets in the opening round by 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria 6:4, 6:2, 7:6 (5) in two hours and 11 minutes.

It was not to be Čilić’s day who had a set point in the third set when he led 5:3 but when he could not convert it was game over.

Croatia’s other hopeful in the men’s draw, Borna Ćorić, plays his first round match against Argentina’s Guido Pella on Tuesday.

In the women’s draw, Donna Vekić starts against Wang Yafan from China, whilst Petra Martić faces Oleg Danilović.
