Pučišća: An unavoidable destination for Croatian & international virtuosi

This year, just like many years in the past, the Pučišća International Music Summer School has provided an opportunity for young musicians from Croatia and abroad to enhance their music skills in a beautiful setting, pleasant company and stimulative environment.

Pučišća, a small town on the island of Brač, known for its quarry and excellent stone, was a meeting point of numerous Croatian and foreign musicians.

The participants of the International Summer Music School arrived with different background knowledge, from amateurs to educated academics, but their common link was their love for music. They practiced and developed their skills in 10-day workshops on almost all instruments. They played with love and supported various programs across Brač, where they impressed and delighted the fans of classical music with their performances.

The classical music workshops were held in Pučišća, and the jazz workshops took place in Bol. During the jazz workshops, the participants worked on many different genres of modern improvised music like Latin American and integral contemporary music. In the first few days everything was defined and disciplined, but when the teachers and their pupils got to know each other a bit better, spontaneous sessions started to take place like playing on the beach, on the road, in bars, restaurants, rooms. This is what created a special atmosphere at the workshops in Bol.

The participants practiced and worked seriously, but they also found some spare time which they spent swimming in the sea, sunbathing, playing sports, visiting the island… One has to admit that spending time at the seaside, singing, creating music and socializing in a beautiful, picturesque little town is an invaluable experience.

During the past 24 years, Pučišća thus became world famous for their unique combination of a fascinating island, sun, sea and music.

The Pučišća International Summer Music School program is carried out under the high patronage of the President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. The project, which is co-organized by the Municipality and the Pučišća Tourist Board, has traditionally been supported by the state Ministry of Culture, Arriva, the Croatian Tourist Board, HUZIP, ZAPRAF, the Split – Dalmatian county and the Split-Dalmatian county Tourist Board.
