Croatia squad announced for EURO 2020 qualifier v Wales

ZAGREB, 20 May 2019 – Croatia football coach Zlatko Dalić has announced his squad on Monday ahead of the upcoming EURO 2020 qualifier in June.

The World Cup runners-up will play their third EURO 2020 qualifier against Wales in Osijek on 8 June before taking on Tunisia in Varaždin on 11 June in an international friendly. Today Dalić named his squad and there has been a few changes. 

21-year-old Celtic defender Filip Benković, who is on loan from Leicester City, has been called up, and left back Dario Melnjak, who plays in the Turkish first division for Caykur Rizespor, has earned himself a call up for the first time.

Goalkeepers: Lovre Kalinić (Aston Villa), Dominik Livaković (Dinamo), Simon Sluga (Rijeka)

Defenders: Domagoj Vida (Bešiktaš), Dejan Lovren (Liverpool), Tin Jedvaj (Bayer Leverkusen), Duje Ćaleta-Car (Marseille), Karlo Bartolec (Nordsjaellaand), Filip Benković (Celtic), Borna Barišić (Rangers), Dario Melnjak (Caykur Rizespor)

Midfielders: Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Ivan Rakitić (Barcelona), Mateo Kovačić (Chelsea), Milan Badelj (Lazio), Marcelo Brozović (Inter), Filip Bradarić (Cagliari), Marko Rog (Sevilla), Mario Pašalić (Atalanta)

Strikers: Ivan Perišić (Inter), Andrej Kramarić (Hoffenheim), Ante Rebić (Eintracht), Nikola Vlašić ( CSKA Moscow), Josip Brekalo (Wolfsburg), Bruno Petković (Dinamo Zagreb)

Mile Škorić (Osijek), Mijo Čaktaš (Hajduk Split) and Josip Posavec have been named as the players on stand by. 

The squad will gather on 29 May in Split and will play NK Omiš on 31 May in Omiš to celebrate the club’s 100th anniversary. 

Croatia started their EURO 2020 qualifying campaign in March with a win a 2-1 win against Azerbaijan but went down to Hungary 2-1.

6 September, 20:45 (Friday): Slovakia – Croatia
9 September, 18:00 (Monday): Azerbaijan – Croatia
10 October, 20:45 (Thursday): Croatia – Hungary
13 October, 20:45 (Sunday): Wales – Croatia
16 November, 20:45 (Saturday): Croatia – Slovakia

The top two teams in the group will automatically qualify for the EURO 2020 tournament.
