Zagreb Mayor Sent Back to Jail and Forfeits €2 Million Bail

Croatia80Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, who was released from jail on bail back in November last year after spending a month inside, has been ordered back to jail by a court in the Croatian capital on Tuesday…

Bandić (59), who has been Mayor of Croatia’s capital since 2005, was arrested, along with 19 others, on suspicion of corruption, bribery and organised crime on 19 October 2014. The court released the Mayor late last year on what was a record 2 million euros bail.

Part of his bail conditions stated that we was forbidden to return to work as Mayor, and on Tuesday he was ordered back behind bars after the court heard that he tried to get a witness in the case to change their statement and to sign a document they knew was false, reports daily 24sata.

Bandić’s bail money (2 million euros) will be forfeited to the state.
