Croatia Set to Play Thailand in Football Friendly

Croatian football federation president Davor Šuker (46) is currently in Bangkok, and his visit to the Thai capital is two-fold. Šuker, who won the Golden Boot at the 1998 World Cup in France, is one of 30 former top players, including Italy’s Fabio Cannavaro, Portugal’s Luis Figo, Brazil’s Cafu, Ukraine’s Andriy Shevchenko, and England’s Paul Scholes and Michael Owen, in the Global Legends Series (GLS), which will play a series of matches in Thailand, China, Japan and Malaysia starting on Friday.

Šuker and his close friend Worawi Makudi, the Football Association of Thailand president, have also met to finalise details for a Memorandum of Understanding which both the federations will sign.

“In Brazil, we talked about exchanging knowledge, coaches, referees, players and everything about football, everything we can help,” Šuker said in an interview with Bangkok Post, adding that as part of the cooperation the two sides will likely square off in March next year during the FIFA window.

Šuker also expressed during the interview his desire to be elected onto FIFA’s Executive Committee.

“I hope I become a member of Fifa executive committee in the future. I am still young and can learn from Mr Worawi. I hope Mr Worawi continues as a member of Fifa executive committee,” said the former Real Madrid and Arsenal striker. (pic HNS)
