Zagreb’s Dolac Market was buzzing this morning as crowds gathered to prepare for the final festive days and New Year’s celebrations.
The biggest queues were seen at stalls selling suckling pig, a traditional centrepiece of the New Year’s table.
Alongside pig, lamb, sarma and French salad remain firm favourites on Croatian New Year’s menus.
Shoppers at Dolac were buying a wide range of local produce, including home-grown cabbage, turkeys, fish, eggs and fresh vegetables.
Demand was particularly high for meat and cured meat products, which were available at almost every corner of the market.

Prices reflect the seasonal rush. Sour cabbage, essential for sarma, is selling for an average of four euros, while pickled vegetables are priced at around three euros, Večernji list reported.
Locally sourced pig is being offered at approximately ten euros per kilogram, with vendors reporting strong demand.

Despite the crowds, the atmosphere at Dolac remained lively and festive, reflecting the importance of food, tradition and togetherness as Croatians prepare to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new.
