ZAGREB, 28 Dec (Hina) – The Central State Office for Croats Abroad this year allocated €1.8 million to programmes run by 126 Croatian diaspora organisations in Europe and overseas.
The largest single grant, €50,000, was awarded to the Croatian Catholic Mission in Vienna for premises renovation and digitalisation.
A further €43,000 went to the Croatian civic association Jadran in Argentina for anniversary events and activities promoting Croatian identity.
Six programmes received grants of €40,000, including Croatian institutions in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as a Germany-based company organising the 20th anniversary of Domovnica, the awards for the most popular Croats abroad.
Grants of €35,000 were awarded to seven organisations, among them the Honorary Bleiburg Guard in Austria for commemorative activities.
Eight organisations received less than €5,000 each, mainly for cultural, publishing and community projects in Canada, Germany, Chile, Australia and Paraguay.
The Office said the minimum grant per project was €1,000 and the maximum €50,000.
Funding for diaspora programmes is €600,000 higher than last year, when €1.2 million was allocated.
