Croatian farmers are set to gain greater visibility in shops across the country, following an announcement by the Minister of Agriculture at the Days of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry event held in Tuhelj.

The planned changes aim to make it easier for consumers to see where products on shop shelves come from, a move expected to support domestic production despite the many challenges faced by local farmers.

The government is currently working on a new regulation that will improve the labelling of a product’s country of origin in retail stores.

A key change will involve clearer and more prominent labelling, including rules on font size to ensure the country of origin is just as visible as the product price.

“Work is underway on a new rulebook for country-of-origin labelling in shops. There will be changes to font size, ensuring that the country of origin is displayed just as clearly as the price,” David Vlajčić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, told HRT.

“This is important for all consumers, so we can clearly see where the products we buy come from. I believe that people will choose Croatian products, because Croatian is the best – produced by our own farmers,” he added.

The new measures are expected to increase transparency for shoppers and provide stronger support for Croatian agriculture, encouraging consumers to choose locally produced food and goods whenever possible.
