The Croatian city of Varaždin is set to shine brighter than ever this festive season as the city launches forty days of Advent celebrations, complete with a brand-new spectacle that promises to delight visitors of all ages.
This year’s highlight, Rudolf’s Magical Flight, brings a unique touch to Advent in Croatia, offering a one-of-a-kind experience right beside the illuminated walls of the Old Town.
In a scene straight out of a winter fairy-tale, Father Christmas will “land” in Varaždin on his sleigh each afternoon, gliding along a specially designed zip line beside the historic fortress.

From 8 December at 16:30, visitors will be able to welcome him as he begins his daily descent before making his way towards his enchanting Christmas Town.
Here, six themed cottages await, inhabited by playful elves, Mrs Christmas, and even the mischievous Grinch lurking in his cave.
The route to Father Christmas’s House once again leads through the popular Magical Lift, now enhanced with new visual effects.

Entry remains free, with tickets available through Eventim or directly on-site.
Slots can be booked up to a week in advance, while families or groups may reserve an entire private lift journey for €30, accommodating up to six people.
The Christmas Town will host more than 120 free events this season.
Mrs Christmas has prepared a small storytelling festival, and her house will offer a glimpse into the world of theatre thanks to an exhibition of puppets from the Varaždin National Theatre.

Alongside creative workshops, visitors will be able to take home festive souvenirs including hoodies, gingerbread, mugs and other keepsakes featuring Christmas Town motifs.
Beyond the Christmas Town, Varaždin’s streets will be bursting with holiday cheer. The panoramic wheel returns, offering the best views of the decorated city, along with the charming retro carousel.

Meanwhile, the largest ice rink yet, an impressive 1,900 m², opens on Friday, 21 November, inviting both beginners and seasoned skaters to enjoy hours of winter fun.
A rich weekend music programme on Korzo brings some of the region’s most popular performers, including Nina Badrić, Jakov Jozinović, Vatra, Natali Dizdar and the renowned Slovenian vocal group Perpetuum Jazzile.
All concerts are free of charge.

To ensure a stress-free visit, the City of Varaždin is providing free parking at three locations: Roto Svijet Pića (Optujska 157), Gradski bazeni (Zagrebačka 85/A) and the Auto Fair grounds (Biškupečka 3).
From Friday to Sunday, as well as on public holidays, free city buses (“buseki”) will offer transport to the centre.

From 28 November to 6 January, Varaždin once again promises the kind of festive season we all love. Full programme details can be found on the official website.
