The four Croatian towns which remain divorce-free

Labin

Labin

Four Croatian towns have not recorded a single divorce in the past two years, even as the number of divorces rises nationwide.

According to data reported by Dnevnik.hr, Croatia saw 4,961 marriages dissolved last year, 554 more than in 2023.

Despite this upward trend, four towns have remained entirely divorce-free: Pazin, Labin, Buzet and Kraljevica.

This marks the second consecutive year without a divorce in Pazin, Buzet and Kraljevica.

In fact, back in 2023, a total of nine towns across the country reported zero divorces, but only these three, joined by Labin, have managed to keep the streak going.

At the same time, the number of weddings in Croatia has slightly declined.

A total of 17,206 marriages were registered last year, compared to 17,306 the year before.

Psychologist and psychotherapist Nataša Basanić Čuš explained that marriage requires constant effort and compromise.

“Life as a couple is very demanding. It requires growth together, compromise and tolerance, qualities not often associated with the Western world in the 21st century. Croatians fit into that pattern as well, but we still remain somewhat more traditional,” she told  Dnevnik.hr.

While the statistics show that marriage is increasingly under pressure in Croatia, the experience of these four towns highlights that in some communities, tradition and togetherness continue to prevail.
