Croatia adds over 1,300 new private rentals in 2025

ZAGREB, 10 August 2025 (Hina) – Croatia has recorded an increase in the number of classified tourist accommodation facilities across all major segments this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sport.

By mid-July 2025, there were 1,197 hotels in the country – nine more than the same period last year. The number of campsites rose by 16 to 386, while private rentals saw the biggest jump, with 1,359 new properties, bringing the total to 124,589.

In total, Croatia had just over 1.27 million tourist beds in all registered commercial accommodation types, up around 1% compared to mid-July 2024.

Hotels: Four-star category on the rise

Among newly classified hotels, four-star properties saw the biggest growth – five more than last year, for a total of 453. There were also four more five-star hotels, bringing the total to 74.

Hotels with two stars dropped by three to 50, while three-star hotels fell by one to 362. The “comfort” category lost two hotels (109 in total), while the “standard” category remained unchanged at 45.

Dubrovačko-Neretvanska County boasts the highest number of five-star hotels (20), while Splitsko-Dalmatinska County has the most four-star hotels (125) and also leads overall in four and five-star hotels combined, with 140.

Splitsko-Dalmatinska County is also home to the most hotels overall, 290, followed by Kvarner with 86 and Dubrovačko-Neretvanska with 60. The biggest growth in new hotels this year was recorded in Zadarska County.

Campsites: Growth in mid-range categories

Croatia now has 386 classified campsites, 16 more than last year. The largest share are three-star sites (90, up by four) and four-star sites (88, up by one). The number of five-star campsites remains unchanged at nine.

Most campsites are along the Adriatic coast, led by Zadarska County (103), followed by Istria (74), Splitsko-Dalmatinska (48) and Kvarner (43).

Private rentals: Zadar leads growth

Private rentals in households total 124,589, an increase of 1,359 on last year. Four-star properties showed the biggest jump, rising by 871 to over 21,000 in total.

Zadarska County recorded the largest increase, adding 648 new properties for a total of 18,956. The biggest overall number remains in Splitsko-Dalmatinska County with 33,315 rentals, 378 of them new this year.

Only three counties – Istria, Primorsko-Goranska, and Šibensko-Kninska – saw a drop in private rentals compared to 2024.

Accommodation on family farms (OPGs) also rose by 31 properties to 644, with the “four suns” category seeing the biggest growth (22 new properties).
