ZAGREB, 24 July 2025 – The City of Zagreb has installed its first mobile public drinking fountain at Kvaternikov Square, following a community-led initiative and in cooperation with the Maksimir District Council.
This marks the return of drinking water to the square after nearly two decades.
The mobile fountain is located in front of the southern entrance to the NAMA department store and is already providing much-needed refreshment to residents during the hot summer months.
Made from stainless steel, the modern octagonal-shaped fountain stands two metres tall and has a diameter of 56 centimetres.
It features two arched water jets positioned on opposite sides, along with a self-filling bowl at the base designed for dogs. Additional features include water mist spray nozzles and a self-cleaning option to maintain hygiene standards.

Valued at around 11,000 euros excluding VAT, the fountain is intended for seasonal use and will be operational during spring and summer.
It will be turned off in winter to prevent freezing.
This addition enriches Zagreb’s existing network of 180 public fountains.

The city aims to install one new fountain in each of its 17 districts every year. Citizens can locate the nearest fountain using an interactive map available on the official City of Zagreb website.
An urban design competition is also planned to create a standardised, contemporary version of the public fountain, which will help raise the overall standard of urban infrastructure.
The City of Zagreb is encouraging residents to cool down in public spaces during heatwaves and to follow the health protection guidelines issued by the Croatian Institute of Public Health.
In addition to public fountains, the city’s libraries also offer air-conditioned spaces at 42 locations, providing a comfortable environment for people to spend time throughout the day.
