Marin Cilic Set to Return After Avoiding Suspension

Croatia’s number one tennis player Marin Cilic has avoided suspension from the game’s governing body after being investigated for testing positive for a banned substance at a tournament in Germany in April.

Cilic will play his first match since June when he plays in an ATP tournament in Kuala Lumpur on 23 September, it was announced on the ATP World Tour official website. It was reported that Cilic (24) found out about the news that he tested positive for taking a glucose supplement that contained a banned substance during this year’s Wimbledon tournament. Cilic pulled out of his 2nd round match at Wimbledon shortly after hearing the news and citied a ‘dubious’ knee injury as the reason behind his withdrawal.

“Marin Cilic is under investigation for a failed doping test, but the ITF or the ATP have not suspended him so he can play at the tournament,” said the Malaysian Open organisers.
